Our Current Issue

Our current issue is number 83

Our Autumn cover features Blithe Spirit – a sophisticated delicately coloured quilt made by Anna Prussing for a special neice's 21st birthday. The cover styling was by Anna Smith and the photograph by Helen Mitchell. Our model is India Arabella Ansell.

In this issue our featured quilter is Shirley Julian from Whangarei. A relative latecomer to quilting, Shirley loves nothing better than trying a new technique and playing.

We showcase winners from large guild exhibitions with a visit to the inaugural Auckland Festival of Quilts, Shirley Dixon explains a judge's perspective on Wellington Quilters' Guild exhibition, Heather Harding shares her love of making quilts from rescued shirts, Judith McMillan talks about her large collection of sewing machines, and Brenda Hart's quilt made from bottle tops has a strong message about fetal alcohol syndrome

Our subscribers share their quilts started in Symposium classes and we profile the Christchurch based Threadneedle Friendship Group - still hand stitching together after 20 years.

There are 5 project patterns – The super simple Talofa Samoa by Heather Harding is reminiscent of stained glass windows and is made from recycled Hawaiian style shirts. In our New Zealand themed patterns, Jenny Hunter captures the Royal Albatross and Joanne Mitchell’s scherenschnitte block Buttercup Baby is inspired by the Mount Cook Buttercup. Marge Hurst continues her series of native New Zealand orchid designs with Mauve Fingers. Bird Song, our pocket project is a useful pot mitt with a simple applique bird design.

Our next issue (number 84) will be published in early July 2013
