About Us Editor: Anne Scott founded New Zealand Quilter in 1992. By 1998, the magazine was already creating overseas interest in New Zealand quilts. Anne was invited to take a special exhibition of New Zealand quilts to Quilt Canada '98. This was the first time such a large juried exhibition of New Zealand quilts had been exhibited overseas. This exhibition went on to the Sydney Quilt Festival. In 2004, Anne curated Pieces of Paradise, an exhibition of New Zealand quilts for the Association of Pacific Northwest Quilters' Exhibition in Seattle, and then took the quilts to the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, UK. In 2007 she took her personal collection of 12 historical Tivaevae to show at the International Quilt Market and Festival and the exhibition then went on to show at The Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, UK, the following year. This year, Anne has received a grant from Creative New Zealand and will curate an exhibition of 45 New Zealand quilts to take to the European Patchwork Association'[s annual show in Alsace, France. A full colour catalogue will be published in association with this exhibition.
Anne has a longstanding interest in quilt history and in 2000 was appointed to the Advisory Board of the International Quilt Study Center, at the University of Lincoln, Nebraska for three years. In 2007 Anne was invited by Unicef to teach quilting and sewing skills to disadvantaged women in Laos as part of an income generation scheme. The team of three has since made three further trips to Laos teaching more sewing and income generation skills in three provinces of Laos. | |
